Common problems
Your web designer disappeared. Here’s what to do.
“Our web guy stopped answering emails. The site still works, but I can’t change anything and I don’t even know who hosts it.”
What I hear from business owners
Why it happens
Why this happens so often
Plenty of small-business sites are built by a friend, a freelancer or a small agency that later moves on. The site keeps running, but the logins, the hosting account and sometimes the domain itself are in their name, not yours.
The real risk isn’t the design. It’s the domain. If the domain renews on someone else’s card and they stop paying, your website and email can go offline overnight.
What I do
How I fix it.
See a working preview before you pay.
- 01
Secure the domain first
I help you find out who your domain is registered to and get it into your name. Under auDA rules a .com.au domain should be held by your business, which gives you a path to recover it.
- 02
Work out what you can access
Hosting, the site’s files, email and analytics: we list what you have and what needs recovering.
- 03
Rebuild on your terms
Usually the cleanest path is a fresh build you own outright, with every account in your name.
- 04
Never again
You get a written list of every login and account, all registered to you.
