Leaving WordPress, or making it work.
“Our WordPress site has so many plugins I’m scared to update anything. It’s slow, and something breaks every few months.”
What I hear from business owners
Why it happens
Why WordPress sites get slow and fragile
WordPress itself is solid. The trouble is what gets piled on top: a heavy theme, a page builder, and a plugin for every small feature. Each one adds weight, and each needs updating. Skip updates and you risk security holes; run them and you risk something breaking.
For a brochure site that mostly needs to load fast and bring in enquiries, a hand-coded site removes all of that. There are no plugins to update and nothing to patch.
What I do
How I fix it.

- 01
Honest advice first
If your site is a catalogue or shop that genuinely suits WordPress, I’ll say so. If it’s a brochure site, a custom build is usually faster and simpler.
- 02
Rebuild what you need
Your pages rebuilt by hand, with only the features you actually use.
- 03
Keep content editable
If you post regularly, a lightweight dashboard replaces the WordPress editor.
- 04
Redirect and switch
Old URLs redirected, domain moved, WordPress hosting cancelled.
Real example
Structerre Online
Not every site should leave WordPress. Structerre Online sells engineering details online, so I built it on WordPress and WooCommerce, with custom work for delivering address-stamped plans, because a store with a product catalogue suited it.
