Common problems

Do you actually own your website?

“I’ve paid for this website for years, but I found out I don’t own it. If I stop paying, it disappears.”

What I hear from business owners

Why it happens

Why so many businesses don’t own their site

Website builders and some agencies rent you the site rather than sell it. Wix and Squarespace sites can’t be moved off their platform; you can only rebuild them elsewhere. Some agency packages bundle the site, hosting and domain into a contract, and the site goes with the contract.

That’s fine until you want to leave, change provider or stop paying. Then you find out the thing you paid for was never yours.

What I do

How I fix it.

  1. 01

    You own the code

Every site I build is handed over as code that’s yours, forever. It isn’t tied to a platform.

  2. 02

    Your domain, in your name

The domain is registered to your business, not to me.

  3. 03

    Hosting you can move

Host it yourself or have me host it. Either way, you can move it whenever you like.

  4. 04

    No lock-in

Website Management is month to month. Cancel with 7 days’ notice and you get a clean handover.
